Mrs. Velva Potter Mock

On Thursday, November 6, 2025, Mrs. Velva Jean Potter Mock transitioned from labor to reward in her home while sleeping. She was born on March 29,1940, in High Point, NC to the late Herbert Potter and Daisy Hill Potter. She was preceded in death by one son, Benny F. Mock, Jr.; and siblings, Priscilla, Mary, Herbert, Clyde, Viola, and Margaret.

She was a proud alumnus of William Penn High School in High Point, graduating at the early age of 17. She was challenged regularly as a lefty when playing ping pong at Washington Terrace Park. She entered into the union of marriage to the late Benny F. Mock, Sr. She was an employee of the United States Postal Service where she served as a postal clerk for 30 plus years.

Velva was a faithful servant at Memorial United Methodist Church. She generously donated her personal items to decorate the sanctuary and several other rooms in the church. Her angels and nativity scene are still being used to adorn the narthex during the Christmas season. She served on several committees; however, her love was for the hospitality Committee where she served for many years as chair until her health declined. Her passion was to feed the hungry and help the homeless. She generously and anonymously gave wherever there was a need in her church. She was an avid yardsaler and a connoisseur of collecting antiques, Black and Asian Art.

She is survived by daughters, LaJeune Gilchrist (Ronny), LaTonya Mock, son, Adrian D. Mock; sister, Sarah Atkinson; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Mock may be viewed on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
