James Arthur Miller, the son of the late Susan Miller Salley and John Miller, and stepson of the late Ulysses Salley, departed his earthly home to reside with our Heavenly Father on November 4, 2025, at 6:33 p.m., at the Brooklyn Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brooklyn, NY.
James was educated in Charleston, S.C., until he moved to New York City, where he met Ruth Jackson, who preceded him in death. They were married on January 22, 1954. From this union, they were blessed with three sons: James Jr., John, and David. James Jr. and John both preceded him in death.
James was a member of Second Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John Martin, where he also served as a Deacon. He was also a Mason.
James had a passion for fishing and enjoyed going on fishing trips with his buddies throughout the year. “Man, oh man,” we’ll miss those porgies! When it came to music, Jimmy loved to listen and could dance like a champ. He truly lived life to the fullest.
James was employed as a pattern cutter for over 30 years with Joseph Love Clothing Industry. No one ever understood how he was hired for the position without prior experience or formal training, but he quickly became one of the best in the trade. He retired in 1993.
Jimmy will be deeply missed for his kindness and his willingness to help others whenever he could—a true blessing to many. He was a gentle giant with a big heart and a strong, steady voice.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory: his sister Lena Pressley; two sons, David Miller and Kasiem King (daughter-in-law, Latoya); ten granddaughters, Nadirah, Naimah, Amirah, Amber, Andera Nakia, Makayla, Briel, Brianna, and Xemena; three grandsons, John Jr., Malachi, and Onri; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him.
