Geneva Fortson, 73, passed on November 14, 2025 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Howard Chapel A.M.E. Church, Hatchechubbee, AL with Rev. Bernice Cofield, pastor, officiating and Rev. Jerry Robinson, eulogist. Public viewing is 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, November 21, 2025.

Mrs. Geneva Fortson was born October 26, 1952 in Russell County, AL. She was the daughter of Willie P. Pitts and Sally Mae Pitts. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Wardell Pitts, Walter Pitts and Willie Pitts; two sisters, Hattie Shavers and Catherine McFarland.

Geneva departed this life on November 14, 2025 with her husband by her side.

She attended Sandford and Spencer High Schools. Geneva obtained her certified nurse’s assistant license. In 1991, she received the AmVets Auxiliary Member of the Year Award.

At an early age she confessed Christ and united with Providence Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She worked at Southern Phenix Textile as a weaver. Later she became a professional caregiver. In April 2006, she joined Howard Chapel A.M.E. Church and served on various boards including Missionary Board, Usher Board, Choir #2 and worked in the Fellowship Hall.

Geneva had a hobby of baking “Buttermilk” pies for her family and friends. She also made bracelets and gave them out to anyone she would come across. Geneva also enjoyed playing bingo.

Geneva leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband M.L. Fortson; one daughter, Latasha Fortson; one son, Randall Pitts (Theresa); a bonus daughter, Shon Fortson-Hollis (Altrazo); a step-son, Stacey Harris (Conquista); a god-daughter, Andrea Kelly; two sisters, Virginia Whatley and Shelia Becks (Gerald); one aunt, Juanita Morris; one brother-in-law, Lewis Fortson; two sisters-in-law, Attrice Marie Clausell and Willie Mae Samuel. She also has eight grandchildren, Taylor Woodard, Jasmine Blakely, Quniton Miles (Brianna), Willie Barnes, Jr., Avianna Barnes, Donovan Harris, Ty Michael Fortson and Langston Hollis; ten great grandchildren; and a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
