Mr. Andrew Worthy was born on February 13, 1950, to the late Mrs. Clyde Garland Worthy and the late Mr. Henry Dawson in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. At an early age, he joined the Friendship Baptist Church.
He was educated in the public schools of Upson County. He graduated from Drake High School, the Class of 1970.
On May 30, 1974, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served a total of thirty-six years in the Army and Army National Guard. He received an Honorable Discharge on February 13, 2010. Throughout his tenure, he earned numerous commendations, including the Army Service Ribbon, National defense Medal, Army Lapel Button, IN Seal Defense Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Expert Rifle Badge.
Andrew was employed by General Motors and later worked for over 25 years at Martha Mills as a Creeler in the Weave Shop and as a Forklift driver. While employed there, he also played on the Martha Mills basketball and Baseball teams. Additionally, he pursued further training at Flint Tech in Auto Body and Fender Repair. He later served seven years with the Thomaston Fire Department, performing his duties with pride, compassion and a deep love for the profession.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed planting flowers, working in his yard, traveling, riding his motorcycle, swimming, going out to eat, and spending time with his pet dog. “Lil Bit."
He was preceded in death by his parents and the following siblings: M.C. Worthy, Louise Prater, Johnny Will Worthy, Nettie Mae King, Walter worthy, Clara Lou Pennyman, Willie Ruth Williams and Willie Clyde Worthy, Betty Dawson, Queen Ester Dawson, Ann Dawson, Abraham Dawson, Bobby Dawson and James Dawson. On Friday, November 7, 2025, the Lord saw His son in distress. He whispered his name; he answered and his spirit went home to be at rest.
He leaves to cherish his memory three children: Ms. Kimberly Worthy of Richmond, VA; Mr. Arriston Worthy of Lovejoy, GA; and Mr. Terric (Jennifer) White of Douglasville, GA; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ms. Hattie Dawson of Cleveland, OH; one sister-in-law, Ms. Joann Worthy of Melbourne, FL; a devoted friend, Barbara Goner; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
