Mrs. Edna Marie Banks Lloyd was born to Elma Coleman Banks and Tommie Banks
on May 24, 1947. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Ralph Lloyd, and this
union was blessed with three children.
A Legacy of Excellence and Service
Marie was educated in the Jackson Public School System and graduated with the
Class of 1966 from Sumner Hill High School in Clinton, Mississippi. She was deeply
committed to her own education and personal growth. Marie proudly earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Science degree in
Counseling from Jackson State University. She cherished her time at Jackson State
and carried the lessons and pride of her alma mater with her throughout her life
and career.
Marie was a dedicated counselor and middle school teacher for more than 34 years.
She maintained a structured and orderly learning environment, ensuring that
every student received the guidance and support necessary to achieve academic
success. Recognized for her outstanding teaching, she was nominated for many
awards that reflected her passion, skill, and commitment to excellence. Colleagues
admired her professionalism, students cherished her guidance, and the community
benefited from her lifelong devotion to education.
Devotion to Christ
Marie gave her life to Christ at an early age. Prayer was her constant companion.
She maintained a personal relationship, expressing her faith through the way she
lived and acts of kindness to others. As a devoted wife, she poured her heart into
their union, building a lifetime of love, partnership, and mutual care. To her
children, she was an awesome mother – steadfast, nurturing and always ready
with the kind of love that made everything feel possible
