Freda Louise West House
May 04, 1937 - November 17, 2025
Freda Louise West House peacefully went to live with the Lord in the early morning hours of November 17. 2025, at the Tribute Memory Care Facility in Bowie, Maryland. She was born on May 4, 1937, to Dorothy West Pearson in Rice, Virginia. She was raised by her grandparents, Willie ”Champ” and Mary Agnes West.
At an early age, she was baptized at Mount Zion Second Baptist in Green Bay, VA. After graduating from Robert Russa Moton High School in Farmville, VA, she moved to New York City to live with her aunt Pearl Thornton. She soon began working for the Bankers Trust Company, where she would remain for 28 years. While in New York, she met and married the late Robert Thompson (also from Rice, VA) in 1964. One son, Anthony, was born to this union.
Freda’s second marriage was to Ralph Alston House, Jr. in 1990. They would retire and move from the Bronx, NY to Chesapeake, VA, where they were constantly hosting family and friends. Anyone who visited them was guaranteed to have a good time. She was a perfect hostess, and would often feed you until you couldn’t move. While Ralph, the jokester would keep you laughing.
Freda loved to laugh and have fun. In her free time,
she enjoyed watching sports, traveling, growing her roses, playing Tetris on her Nintendo, playing electronic poker on her computer, playing cards with Ralph and of course cooking. Her specialties being hot rolls, pound cake, and her awesome potato salad.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ralph Alton House, Jr. (2020); her mother, Dorothy Pearson; her sister, Barbara Jean West Gray and brother-in-law, Aaron Gray, Sr.
Freda leaves to cherish her beautiful memories:
her devoted son, Anthony and his wife Monette; his
granddaughter, Kaliya; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, who will miss her dearly.
