Henry McWhorter, Jr.

Henry McWhorter, Jr. passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA, at the age of 83.

Henry McWhorter, Jr. was born to the late Joe Royal and the late Mary Frances McWhorter on November 6, 1942. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rosie Lee McWhorter; sisters Sarah and Betty McWhorter, Mary Wicks, and Margaret Morris; and a brother, James McWhorter.

Henry was educated in the Oglethorpe County School System. He entered the workforce early and quickly established a reputation for his strong work ethic. He began his career in the logging industry and later worked with Roger Construction, where he assisted with bridge construction until his retirement. After retiring, he continued to work in the farming industry. Over the years, Henry held many jobs, but none brought him as much joy as spending time tinkering with his lawnmowers. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy.

Cherishing his memory are his children: Ronald (Shanta) McWhorter, Mira Evans, and Tommy (Monica) McWhorter; grandchildren: Broderick McWhorter, Melanie, Willie, and Joy Evans, Asiah and Nori McWhorter, Kirsten Reese, Kursten Aiken, Jasper (Chinnita) Wingfield, Jessica (Quincy Sr.) Robbins, Cerria Porter, April (Terry) Surgick, and Trevon Williams; great-grandchildren: Kaylon, Jabril, Bryson, Charli, Jasmine, Jada, Kadandris, Jordyn, Quincy Jr., Jacee, Journey, Jordan, Jeremiah, Journi, Ayana, and Ezekiel; brothers: Melvin (Patricia) McWhorter and Robert Lee McWhorter; sisters: Paula (Johnny) Wallace and Agnes Reid; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and a special friend, Irene Baugh.

The family of the late Henry McWhorter, Jr. would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for your prayers, condolences, calls, visits, cards, monetary donations, and every act of kindness shown during our time of bereavement. Your support has brought us comfort and strength. We kindly ask that you continue to lift us up in prayer.

Services were held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Watts Chapel/Watts Funeral Home, Union Point, GA 30669, with Pastor Herman Laguins as the eulogist.

Watts Funeral Home was in charge of final rites.
