Evangelist Annie Copeland was born on February 15, 1942, in Yemassee, South Carolina, to Alma and Steve Spicer. She is the eldest of five children. After migrating to New York City, Annie met Joe Copeland. After dating for a year, they were united in marriage. From that union, they were blessed with four children.

In 1971, Annie received a knock on her door from her longtime friend Ella Johnson, who began witnessing to her and invited her to services at Fountain Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ. Eventually, Annie gave her life to the Lord and joined Fountain under the leadership of the church’s new pastor, Elder Willie S. Rouse. From that moment on, she began serving faithfully as an usher.

At the leading of the Lord, Annie became one of the founding members of Rose of Sharon Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, also under the leadership of Elder Rouse. At Rose of Sharon, Annie continued her service as an usher, choir member, missionary, and Bible class attendee. Eventually, she answered the call to Gospel ministry and was ordained.

After serving faithfully at Rose of Sharon for many years, Evangelist Copeland, again at the Lord’s leading, became a founding member of Little Branch Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, under the leadership of Elder Ella M. Johnson, where she continued to labor for the Lord.

In the Northeastern District Assembly, Evangelist Copeland served as a member of the Ushers League, the Evangelism Committee of the Home Mission Convention, and as a teacher in the Learning Center. She recently served as the General Evangelist of the Northeastern District Assembly. A true evangelist, she has ministered faithfully in the streets and to men and women incarcerated in the New York prison system.

A loving wife, an endearing mother, kind-hearted sister, and encouraging loved one and friend, her memories are a beacon of light that will shine eternally.
