Obituary For Nasheed Najah Mustafa

Our beloved Sister and mother Nasheed N. Mustafa was born Francis D. Harvey on July 5, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. Nasheed married Lofton J. Bratcher on March 9, 1959. Both her and her husband became registered Muslims of the Nation of Islam in 1962 and attended Muhammad’s Mosque #7C in Brooklyn, New York. After becoming registered in the Nation of Islam, she was known as Francis 15X. Nasheed and her family relocated from Brooklyn, New York to Miami, FL and attended Muhammad’s Mosque #29 in 1968. Nasheed changed her name from Francis D. Bratcher to Nasheed N. Mustafa in 1978. In the early 1990’s, her and her family transferred from Muhammad’s Mosque #29 in Miami, FL to Muhammad’s Mosque #82 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

She departed from her husband in 2001 and relocated from Miami, Florida to Dania Beach, Florida.

She was a beloved mother of nine children. She loved to cook, bake and sew. When she was younger she loved to dance with her brother Cliff Harvey. She also loved listening to music, reading and writing poems.

She is survived by: her two brothers Ralph Harvey and Cliff Harvey; her five son’s Hassan, Daviid Elias, Na’im and Idi Amin; her three daughters Kareemah, Ayesha, and Fatima; her son-in-law’s Desmond Muhammad and Mark X Johnson; her daughter-in-law’s Dorothy Mustafa, Lystra Mustafa, Debra Mustafa and Fannie Mustafa; seventeen grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
