Alice Delores Steward

03/29/1945 - 01/02/2026

On Friday, January 2, 2026, our beloved Alice Delores "Lois" Craighead Steward entered eternal rest.

Alice was born on March 29, 1945, to the late Benjamin and Dorothy Craighead in Saxe, Virginia.
At an early age Alice and her family moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she attended Prospect Heights High School. Upon graduation, she began her work career at Equitable Life Insurance. After sharpening her skills there, she went to work for Aenta Life and Casualty as a claims adjuster

Alice met her husband Richard at a beauty parlor and fell in love with this cute country boy. They married shorty after. From this union was born one son, James Anthony Steward.

Wanting to ease into retirement, she sought employment closer to home, working for Premier Liquor Distributors Long Island City, in Inventory Control. She retired from there in 2005 and shortly after, she and her husband Richard moved to Hastings, Fla. her husband's birthplace.

Alice was a kind and gentle soul, who loved her family, her church and her friends.

Alice was active in her church in New York and could always be counted on for committees and fundraisers. After relocating to Hastings Florida, Alice was active in her church until her health no longer allowed her to attend services.
Alice loved gardening for which she served as president of the Laurelton Garden Club, helping to beautify the neighborhood. Alice loved cooking and trying new recipes. She was a master crafter. She was an avid reader and would read several books a week. She loved walking and shopping, but most of all she loved her grandson Elijah (EJ). Alice and her husband Richard loved to travel. They traveled around the country in their RV. You never knew where they would end up.

Alice leaves to cherish her memory her son, James Anthony Steward of Hastings, Florida; her grandson, Elijah Steward of Virginia, whom she adored; two great-grandsons; three sisters, Ruth Craighead Powell of Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, Caroline Elaine Craighead of Brooklyn, New York, and Janet Craighead Pruitt (Alfonso) of Brooklyn, New York; one brother, Michael Craighead of Brooklyn, New York; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Vasquez of Palm Coast, Florida, and Darlene Williams of Miami Gardens, Florida; brothers-in-law, Roscoe Steward of Vero Beach, Florida, Phyence Steward (Lacretia) of Hastings, Florida, and Mark T.
