It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce that our beloved Mahogheni Ochakhei Mills, 25, has transitioned from the earthly to the spiritual realm on December 30, 2025.
Born in York, Pennsylvania, Mahogheni was a perennial child of the summer season in a multitude of ways. She exuded warmth and vibrance and radiated both inner and extrinsic beauty. She shared that beauty with others through many different facets and senses. Through her gifted hands, she styled hair and wrote poetry. She blessed us visually with her uncanny fashion sense; and soothed countless others vocally with a fine-tuned sense of humor and sharp wit.
Like her birthstone, Mahogheni was a pearl--regardless of any adversity that she experienced, she faced it with poise and grace...and always emerged with brilliance. Mahogheni's zest for life was infectious and unrivaled, and though she was taken from us much too soon; the positive impression that she left on everyone that she encountered was ineradicable.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Viola Mills and great-grandfather, John Kosmo Mills. She is survived by her father, Tarajai Mills; her mother, Vanessa Talley; her aunt/adored and honorary grandmother, Kim Wilson (whom she affectionately referred to as “Mommy Kim”); her stepmother, Chanita Canidate; her stepfather, Glenn Jones; her sisters, Caché Mills, Koiya Jefferson and Giovanni Pittman; her beloved aunt, Dawana; her beloved cousins, Niree and Aireyana Wilson; her grandfather, Nathaniel Beserra; her grandmothers, Denise Russell and Hattie Talley; her aunts, Akua Johnson and Melissa and Vicki Talley; her uncles, Jahmal and Nathaniel Hall and James Talley; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great aunts, uncles and her cherished canine companion, Millie.
Though her beacon of light was dimmed all too briefly, her memory and our love for her will never be extinguished.
Mahogheni's life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 in the Sanctuary of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 N. Progress Avenue, Harrisburg with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery.
