Velma D. Martin, 61, of Martinsville, VA, departed this life on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Sovah Health - Martinsville. She was born February 16, 1964 in Martinsville, VA to the late Henry Panell and Jean Martin.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Martin and Linda Martin.

Velma was a 1983 graduate of Martinsville High School and was a member of St. Paul High Street Baptist Church, Martinsville, VA. She was employed by MARC Workshop, Inc., Martinsville, VA.

Velma leaves behind to cherish her memory, two sons, Christopher T. Martin of Martinsville, VA, and Jose L. Martin (Olivia) of Columbus, GA; one daughter, Elizabeth J. Martin-Echols (Darius) of Martinsville, VA; two brothers, Gary Martin of California and Michael Martin of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Iris Martin Penn of Greensboro, NC; seven grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12:00 noon at St. Paul High Street Baptist Church, 401 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA, with Interim Pastor Thomas Divens, Eulogist. Interment will be private.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, 714 Corn Tassel Trail Martinsville, VA.
