Sherry “Lynn” Williams, age 66, passed away on January 10, 2026. She was born on August 23, 1959, in East Chicago, Indiana, to the late Joseph Ware Sr. and Edgardine Ware.
Early Life & Education
Sherry attended West Side High School in Gary, Indiana, and graduated with the Class of 1977. In 1982, she married John W. Williams, who preceded her in death. She continued her education at Davenport College-Merrillville and obtained her associates degree in nursing.
Career & Service
Sherry dedicated 22 years of service as a Registered Medical Assistant, working between the Gary Health Department and the East Chicago Health Department. She was widely recognized as an outstanding professional for her extensive knowledge and administration of immunizations. Her commitment to public health and patient care left a lasting impact on the communities she served.
Life & Interests
Outside of work, Sherry found joy in sewing and gardening. Her children fondly remember the handmade costumes she created and the time spent planting flowers together in her garden. She had a genuine passion for fashion and cherished spending time with her friends. Sherry was well known for her witty remarks, contagious laughter, and warm presence. She also devoted much of her life to being a loving and dependable caregiver to several family members, always showing up when she was needed most.
Survivors
Sherry is survived by her daughters, Amethyst and Emerald; her grandsons, Braylyn and Jace; and her brother, Reginald Ware Sr. She will also be deeply missed by her godparents, George and Joyce Jarrett; her nieces, Patrice Taylor(Derrick) and Jericka Sutherland (Michael); and a host of cousins, colleagues and close friends.
Final Arrangements
In accordance with Sherry’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. The family will communicate a private memorial at a later time. In lieu of flowers or sympathy cards, the family kindly requests that gifts be made to Phillips-Riley Funeral Home in Sherry’s honor.
Sherry’s humor, dedication, and loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had encountered her.
