It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Alton Felton Williams
Alton Felton Williams was born on August 9, 1949 to the late Mr. James Cecil and Beatrice Williams in Lake Wales, Florida. He is the second oldest child of seven. He is preceded in death by his brothers Danny Boy and Von Williams.
Alton was better known by family and friends as “Al”. He attended Carol High School in Lake Wales, Florida where he graduated in 1967. He received his Bachelor Degree in Art Education from Florida State University.
Al fell in love with his sweetheart Alkanease Garrett and they were married on September 7, 1983. As they celebrated the forty years of marriage together, two beautiful children were conceived.
Al retired from the Leon County School system after thirty-five years of employment.
He enjoyed art, painting, pottery, photography, fishing. He had a special spot in his heart for his granddaughter Brooklyn. He joined a club called Old School Gentlemen Club (OSGC). This club was very important to Al, because it was created to help and mentor outreach children here in the Leon county area. He enjoyed organizing local art shows to support the local talents of students.
He joined Mt. Horeb Primitive Baptist Church in 1995 under the leadership of the late Elder Jessie Hawkins. He also sang in the Mt. Horeb Male Chorus until his illness began to fell.
On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Al heard the calling of his Saving saying “Come Home and take your rest. He took up his wings and went Home to be with the Lord.
Al’s love and legacy will remain in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife Alkanease Garrett Williams of Tallahassee, FL; son: Terrance Williams, of Seattle, Washington; daughter: Shanell Williams, of Houston, TX; granddaughter: Brooklyn Scott, of Houston, TX; brothers: Martel and Xavier Williams, both of Miami, FL; sisters: Tzara Dell, of Jacksonville, FL, and Marsha Brass of West Palm Beach, FL; one aunt: Annie Mae Gordon of Lake Wales, FL; brothers-in-law: John Garrett, of Lake City, FL and Cleveland Garrett of New York, NY; sister-in-law: Linda Sue Garrett of Tallahassee, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Mt. Horeb P.B. Church, 4110 Centerville Rd, with burial at Springfield A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Marianna, FL.
Viewing will be from 12:00 (Noon) to 6:00 P.M. Friday, January 16, 2026 at Strong & Jones Funeral Home.
