One day each of us will fly into God’s hands to live on…Believe…

MR. DANIEL FARRAR, the sixth of the fourteen children, born February 1948 to the late Thomas and Dora Lea Davis Farrar passed away January 10, 2026, at MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA, after courageously battling illnesses. His dear beloved wife, Hattie Boswell Farrar and his two dedicated children, Shawnta and Victor Farrar provided the best care one could desire. Nephew, Michael Farrar, with whom he enjoyed a good father-like relationship with, was readily on call. Also, nieces Janisha Jones, Stacie Whisonant and Kimberlee Whisonant who were bonus daughters. He was also predeceased in death by his siblings- Archer, Sterling, Marion Jones, Floyd and Marilyn Farrar.

Daniel attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools. Like many of his brothers and cousins, he played football and participated on the track team at East End High School.

At an early age, Daniel was baptized at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Later he became a member of Venture Grove Baptist Church. He actively performed works for and of the church. They ranged from groundskeeper and repairman to worship servant. Under the leadership of his dear Pastor, friend, and mentor, Rev. Leo Thorpe. Daniel’s most cherished roles were as Deacon and Trustee, serving with passion in whatever capacity they demanded. He had deep love for his church family.

Daniel retired from Vulcan Materials Company after 40 years of service as a heavy equipment operator. He was also our family’s handman--everyman! Whatever we needed, we petitioned God; he sent Daniel. The job got done. He was an excellent mechanic, repairing cars, lawn and farm equipment as well as household appliances and electrical devices.

Daniel was not a man to express his love with lots of words. He showed it through actions. He was very forgiving, did not hold grudges. No matter how others spewed negativity toward him, it did not hinder him helping them if needed. When working with Daniel on projects, he could be quite stubborn about how they should be done. It would save one much time and frustration if you just let him prevail and usually the task was completed “his way” to perfection.

Daniel was overly energetic and very passionate about his garden, cutting wood and grilling barbecue ribs that could match those of the best chef. He cultivated a productive vegetable garden from which many “carefully” gathered food, or he picked to give to others, especially the elderly or homebound. If you drive by his home, you would see a hefty stack of wood for winter heating.

When he was finally ready to relax, he jogged maybe two miles or did an aerobic class. If he had not watched his soap opera, “The Young and The Restless,” Daniel viewed the recording. He spent countless hours at his parents’ home sitting and talking since someone was always there. He discovered the joy of fishing in the latter few years of his life.

Daniel was one of the original founders of the Farrar/Alexander Family Reunion. He worked diligently to help it survive for 42-plus yearly gatherings and missed only one.

Daniel will be cherished in loving memory and greatly missed by brothers- Thomas Farrar, Melvin (Patricia)Farrar, Robert Farrar, James (Maccie) Farrar, and Herbert (Lisa) Farrar; sisters-Alois Crawford, Ruby Farrar-Lake, and Linda Farrar; good friend, brother-in-law, Everett Jones; honorary siblings- Curtis, Marian, Steven and Leslie; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Farrar, Janice Farrar, Earo Boswell, Ida Whisonant, Marie Daily, Sarah Boswell, and Jennie (Claiborne) Johnson; brothers-in-law, Julius (Linda) Boswell, Clyde Boswell Jr., James (Brenda) Boswell, Wyatt (Paula) Boswell, Greg McEachin; spiritual mother- Gloria Jones; devoted friends- Alfred and Rev. Sharon Baskerville, Gloria Pierce, and Howard Alexander, and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Venture Grove Baptist Church, 7800 Redlawn Road, Bracey, VA 23919 in Daniel Farrar’s honor.
