A life well lived and well loved

Mrs. Letitia B. Johnson 82, of High Point, NC left this life to be with the lord on January 16, 2026. She was born on February 17, 1943, to the late Gladys Beatty Wiley and Adam Hood Beatty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Johnson of 58 years and her sister, Sarah Carter.

Letitia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was affectionately known as Tish to both family and friends.

Letitia attended William Penn High School where she played the viola in the orchestra and was the State ping pong champion! She went on to attend and graduate from North Carolina A&T State University Summa Cum Laude (AGGIE PRIDE!) with a BS degree in accounting. She had a 35-year career with the Internal Revenue Service, where she became the first Black woman to become an IRS revenue agent and manager in North Carolina. After she retired, she enjoyed mentoring elementary school students, working in her garden, decorating her home and shopping.

Letitia leaves behind two daughters, Pamela (Eric) Salter of High Point, NC, Rhonda Johnson of Davidson, NC; and her granddaughter, Erika Salter of Charlotte, NC, who will cherish loving memories forever; she leaves behind her forever friend, Penny Chess of High Point, NC who she has known since they were 6 years old; other family members that will miss her include cousins, Jo Ann Covington of High Point, NC, Talmadge Carter of High Point, NC, Bettye Anne (Henry) Jeffries of High Point, NC, Barbara Carter of Lexington, NC, Dr. Ronald Carter of High Point, NC and Dianne Huff of High Point, NC; her brother-in-law, Charles Carter of Las Vegas, NV and nieces, Charita Carter of Los Angeles, CA, Tanya Carter of Portland, OR, and Cheryllynn Carter of Los Angeles, CA; she also leaves behind her brothers and sisters in law who will miss her love and care; Luther Johnson of High Point, NC, Ronald Tyson of High Point, NC, Dr. Gwendolyn (Rev. Bobby) Green of High Point, NC, Doris (Jimmie) Byers of High Point, NC, Debbie Davis of Sneads Ferry, NC Cheryl Tyson and Dr. Henrietta Johnson of High Point, NC; Andrea Gilmer of High Point, NC. Letitia leaves a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, January 23, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
