Funeral service for Ira Covington, 64, of Opelika, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at St. Mark A.M.E. Church, 796 St. Mark Church Road, Hurtsboro, AL, 36860 with interment in the church cemetery, Reverend Debbie Dowdell, Pastor, Reverend L.C. Thomas, Eulogist.
Mr. Covington, who passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama, was born February 14, 1961, in Russell County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Monday, January 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Covington will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Thelma Covington of Opelika, AL; one child, DeVorius (Takeshia) Goshay of Madison, AL; stepson, Stacey (Conquista) Harris of Hiram, GA; who he raised like a son, Monterris (Rolinsha) Goshay of Tucson, AR; nine grandchildren, Destiny Goshay, Kennedi Goshay, Layken Goshay, Abigail Goshay, Caleb Goshay, Joshua Goshay, Hannah Goshay, Anaya Flores and Donovan Harris; nine brothers, Clemmie Covington of Phenix City, AL, Willie (Vivian) Covington, Johnny (Shirley) Covington both of Hurtsboro, AL, Aaron (Thelma) Cobb, Moses (Patricia) Cobb, Jr., Arthur Cobb all of Detroit, MI, Willie (Cheryl) Cobb of Phenix City, AL, Johnny C. (Annette) Cobb of Auburn, AL and James Cobb of Columbus, GA; six sisters, Mary A. Rogers, Ruby (MC) Marion both of Hurtsboro, AL, Ella Rogers-Burston of Columbus, GA, Lorene McCloud of Heartland, TX, Corine (Elmore) Thomas of Atlanta, GA and Anne Worthen of Columbus, GA; three aunts, Rosie Lee Berry, Harriet Tolbert and Bernice Davis all of Hurtsboro, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
