Ofelia "Lela" Hernandez McGee Boix, 87, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Kensington, Elizabethtown.
Born Feb. 14, 1938, El Paso, Texas, Lela was a cherished member of her community and a devoted follower at the First Christian Church in Elizabethtown.
Lela had a notable career spanning several decades, during which she dedicated 35 years to the real estate industry as a Realtor, broker, and appraiser with Jeffries Realty, Remax, and Americana Realty. Additionally, she served 14 years volunteering at the information desk and gift shop at Baptist Health Hardin and was actively involved with the Hospice store. Lela's commitment to community service extended through her many years with the Lions Club of Elizabethtown and as a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Her dedication to community was also evident in her role as an organizer for recognizing World War II veterans in Hardin County, a cause close to her heart. Lela was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, where her funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 21, at the North Miles location in Elizabethtown.
Lela is survived by her sister, Sarah Stills; ex-husband, Benjamin Boix; two daughters, Gloria Hernandez and Lori (Mo) Moses; two sons, David (Angie) McGee and James McGee; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Maria Delfina Hernandez; first husband, James McGee; and four siblings, Gloria Smith, Adela Biones and Jesus and Ruben Hernandez.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dementia/Alzheimer's Foundation in memory of Lela.
Percell Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lela will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her dedication to service and her unwavering faith.
