Gloria Jean Abney, a beloved daughter, mother, and sister, passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on August 7, 1958, Gloria was a light in the lives of all who knew her, remembered for her devotion to her family and her kind, creative spirit.
She was the cherished daughter of George and Gertrude Abney. Gloria held a special place in her large, vibrant family as the seventh of nine children. Growing up in a household of nine siblings, she learned the values of loyalty and deep-rooted love—traits that defined her entire life.
Gloria was a gifted beautician and hairstylist who had a true passion for her craft. Whether she was braiding, curling, or styling, she had a natural talent for making those around her look and feel their best. She didn't just "do hair"; she poured her heart into her work, using her hands to create beauty and build connections with everyone who sat in her chair. Her creativity and the joy she found in her work will be one of her most lasting legacies.
Gloria’s greatest pride and joy were her children. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her three children: Yecola Abney, Shamara Abney, and Dathan Abney.
She is also survived by her beloved siblings: James Abney, Adrian Lindsay, Loretta Johnson-Neal, Ora Mae Abney, Rosalyn Abney, Curtis Abney, and Vanessa Abney.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Abney, and her brother, Walter Abney.
