Obituary

Lucille Simmons Webb was born on May 24, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Frank and Edna Simmons. She was the youngest of seven children.

Lucille received her early education in the New Orleans Public School System. She continued her academic journey at Southern University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree. Committed to lifelong learning, she furthered her studies at Southern University, receiving a Master’s degree in Library Science.

At an early age, Lucille gave her life to Christ and was a devoted member of Berean Presbyterian Church in New Orleans. Her faith remained the foundation of her life throughout the years.

In 1968, Lucille was united in holy matrimony to Clarence Webb of New Orleans. In 1969, the couple relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where Lucille made the South Side her home until December 2025.

Lucille dedicated 34 years of faithful service to education, working as a school librarian for the Chicago Public School System. She was deeply committed to nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning.

Lucille was also a devoted and active member of South Shore Community Church, where she served faithfully for many years as a deacon. Her service to the church reflected her unwavering faith, leadership, and compassion.

Lucille and Clarence were the loving parents of one son, Delvin Webb, born in 1977. Delvin was devoted to his mother and ensured she remained closely connected to family, traveling with her to Atlanta, Cleveland, Oakland, and back home to New Orleans for family reunions, birthday celebrations, holiday gatherings, and times of remembrance. Delvin preceded his mother in death in 2024.

Lucille was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Webb; her parents, Frank and Edna Simmons; and her siblings, Rachel, Frank, Jessie Mae, Louise, Audrey, and Lloyd.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory one remaining sister, Edna; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Lucille Simmons Webb will be remembered for her deep faith, dedication to education, love of family, and a life of quiet service and grace.
