John Gerald McCoy Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Born in Cottondale, Florida, to the late Lucile and Thomas McCoy, John was a proud Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 32 and a lifetime member of the Peters Road Volunteer Fire Department. After retirement, he moved to Marianna, Florida, where he became a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church.

John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret; his sons, John Jr. and his wife Jean of Marianna, Florida, and Michael and his wife Keisha of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and his five grandchildren: Jed, Jamie Olivia, Michael, Jack, and Sean. He also leaves behind his siblings: Shirley Yates, Troy (Debra) McCoy, Sheryl (Hayes) Boone, Drucile (Willis) Hagan, and Julianne Martin, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James and George McCoy; and his sister, Muriel Martin.

John’s greatest joys were coaching his sons in sports and fishing on Lake Okeechobee. His legacy of love, service, and dedication to family will be cherished always.
