Kelly Lamar Fortune, a beloved son, brother and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, February 6, 2026, following health complications.
Kelly was born on January 21, 1969, on the south side of Youngstown, Ohio to two loving parents and an older brother. Coach Kelly was a big sports enthusiast and was a prominent athlete in his own right.
Kelly loved the Lord and was always pursuing his divine calling. Kelly was a proud 1987 Cardinal Mooney High School and Youngstown State University alumnus. He is a former member of the Cardinal Mooney High School Minority Alumni Council.
Kelly shared strong and meaningful bonds with his family and those blessed to know him. His life was a testament to love, connection, and faith, and his presence touched many hearts.
Kelly leaves to cherish his memory his loving father, former Youngstown City Councilman James "Jim" Fortune Sr., and his brother, James "Jaime" Fortune Jr. Kelly is also survived by two devoted nieces, as well as numerous cousins, godchildren, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and friends who will deeply mourn his passing.
As Kelly crossed the celestial sands into eternity, he was reunited with his beloved mother, Beverly Ann (Mitchell) Fortune and is now among the great cloud of witnesses. We take comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and that Kelly has now entered eternal rest, free from pain and suffering.
The family has elected to host a Memorial Service to celebrate Kelly’s life and faith in a date to be determined. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Kelly Lamar Fortune elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 330.782.8500.
