Our beloved Queen Mother, matriarch, and earth angel has transitioned from this life to eternal life on February 13, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones every moment of every day until her last breath. Her last days were spent singing, laughing, and reminiscing; and as a family we agreed to not let her see us cry because we wanted her to remain full of joy, hope, and love until the end; and in her last moments of awareness, she experienced just that.
Sally was born on August 22, 1939, in Greensboro, NC. After graduating from Dudley High School in 1960, she moved to Albany, New York where she was married to the late Cleveland Thomas, and later made her way back to Greensboro, NC. She worked for Moses Cone Hospital and attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Sally enjoyed spending time with her family, which was full of laughter, singing, dancing, playing cards, and celebratory events. She also enjoyed her version of treasure hunting at thrift stores, consignment shops, and every yard sale she could find. In her quiet time, you could most certainly guarantee that she would have a crossword puzzle in every room; she enjoyed them more than anything else. She would often say, “it makes my memory sharp,”
Sally was preceded by her father, the late Rev. Nick Dalton and Emma Dalton. She also has 2 sisters and 1 brother, Mary Dalton, Rachel Mizelle (transitioned), and Archie Dalton (transitioned). She leaves a beautiful legacy of 6 daughters, Pamela Dalton, Darlene Dalton (transitioned), Regina Brown, Rose Brown, Missy Brown, and Tonya Brown; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 10 great “great” grandchildren; she also has 2 goddaughters, Jeannette Littlejohn and Annette Williams.
May the peace of God that transcends all understanding guard our hearts and minds as we prepare to say our final goodbye knowing that she has peacefully ascended into the heavenlies. We love you; we honor you, and we will never ever forget you. Thank you for gracing us with your presence and love. Until our souls connect again…. fly high and shine bright our beautiful earth angel.
