Joe "Joe Byrd" Hawkins

When I've gone the last mile of the way,
I will rest at the close of the day,
And I know there are joys that await me
When I've gone the last mile of the way.

With loving arms of compassion, S. Jones F. and C. are comforting the heartbroken loved ones of Mr. Joe Clinton Hawkins as they prepare for a journey that no family wishes to take. The Hawkins Family Circle was forever changed when "Joe Byrd," as he was affectionately known, drove the "Last Mile" on February 19, 2026, when he transitioned into eternal rest at the Nash UNC Medical Center.

Services to honor the legacy of Joe Byrd will begin with a visitation from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday, February 27, 2026, in the chapel of S. Jones Funerals and Cremations. The family will be present to greet their many friends and loved ones as they reminisce about the good times shared.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 am, Saturday, February 28, 2026 in the sanctuary of the St. Paul Baptist Church.

Interment will take place in the Springfield Church Cemetery.
