Lemon E "June" Carter, Jr.

On Sunday, February 22, 2026, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Lemon E. "June” Carter, Jr., 76, of Laurel Park Ave., Martinsville peacefully transitioned from this life at UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC.

Born in Pittsylvania County, VA on March 6, 1949, to the late Lemon E. Carter, Sr. and Rosie Mae Jones Carter.

Lemon was a member of Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, and he attended Spirit Led Temple. After completing his high school education, Lemon enlisted in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged after serving his country faithfully. He retired from Sprint Telephone Company after 44 years of service.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife, Marie Swanson Carter of the home; two sons, Corey D. Carter and his wife, Terri Carter of Chesapeake, VA and Dr. Princeton L. Carter and his wife, Dr. Staci Carter of Chapel Hill, NC; one daughter, Dr. Tyrette S. Carter -Henry and her husband, Clinton Henry of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren; two sisters, Pastor Drucilla Hairston of Martinsville, VA and Bernice Wilkerson and her husband, Sammy Wilkerson of Cascade, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, 933 Bethel Ln., Martinsville, VA with Elder Terry Hairston, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, with military honors.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The family will be present during this time. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 261 Laurel Park Ave., Martinsville between the hours of 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. daily.
