Beatrice Edwards Lyons was born on June 25, in Athens, Georgia, the youngest child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Mack and Willie Mae Edwards. She graduated from Athens High and Industrial School in Athens, GA. She attended Paine College and completed her post-secondary education, earning associate degrees in Applied Science from Georgia Military College, Augusta University, and Augusta Technical College, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree.
She took pride in her nursing career, which included service at the VA Hospital, Doctor’s Hospital, Gracewood Regional Hospital, The Weston Clinic, the Medical College of Georgia Prevention Institute, and as Director of the Good Samaritan Respite Center, before concluding her career as a school nurse for the Richmond County School System. She was an active member and officer of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She loved to dance and was a member of the Modern Dance Group while attending Paine College.
She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church West in Athens, GA, and Cummings Grove Baptist Church in Augusta, GA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Charles H. S. Lyons Jr.; her brother, Henry; her sisters, Addie, Minnie, Zilla, and Eddie Mae; and her daughter, Lottie. She leaves to cherish her memory: one brother, James (Vina) Edwards; one sister, Cathryn (Lee) Irvis of Harrisburg, PA; two sons, the Honorable Charles H. S. (Von) Lyons III of Augusta, GA, and Dr. Collins (Betty) Lyons of Evans, GA; three daughters, Charlotte (Earl) Johnson of Evans, GA, Beatrice (Gary) Daniels of Lexington, SC, and Faye (Morris) Lyons-Gary of Decatur, GA and Loraine K. Lyons, North Augusta, SC; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
