Obituary For Mr. James Edward Speights

James Edward Speights was born on November 6, 1950 in Lake City, South Carolina to the late Ashley Spates and Verline Spates. James departed this earthly life on Saturday, February 23,2019 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

James attended Carver High School and graduated in1970. After graduation, James enlisted in the United States Army. After returning from the Army, James moved to Paterson, New Jersey. There he met his wife, Betty Hardy and they were married for twenty-three years.

James was employed by Sea Breeze Syrup in Towaco, New Jersey for over twenty years before relocating to Rex, Georgia. James was a friendly, outgoing person. He loved sports and spending time with his family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents: Ashley and Verline Spates; two brothers: Ashley Spates Jr. and Willie Spates.

James leaves to cherish his loving memories ~ a son: Derrick (Denise) Speights of Teaneck, NJ; four grandchildren: Bryanna Selby, Destinee Selby, Jalen Speights, Amoria Speights all of Teaneck, NJ; four sisters: Roylee (William) Montgomery of Florence, SC, Bertha Spates, Verlie Ann Williams both of Lake City, SC and Rethalene Miles of Manhattan, NY; a brother: Jessie Spates of Lake City, SC; three aunts: Kiziah Spates, Lula Mae Spates and Frances Spates all of Lake City, SC; five brothers-n-law; ex-wife: Betty Speights of Greenville, NC; three sisters-n-law: one god-son: Nakoiss Jackson and one god-daughter: Kalinda Jeter both of Paterson, NJ; a longtime friend: Charles Fleming Rex, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
