Barbara Lorraine Kirby was born February 23, 1945 to Walter and Barbara Dishmon. She attended Loretto High School (now Loretto Academy) on the Southside of Chicago.

She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Christ Universal Temple. Barbara worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for many years before retiring. Barbara lived on the Southside of Chicago where she enjoyed traveling with her riding buddy Marshneil, baking her renown cakes and puddings, and taking water aerobics.

She had many friends and enjoyed hosting parties with her Post Office friends. After her retirement, she remained active with her local Credit Union completing 50 years of service. Barbara loved children and in her later years, she took care of children for her good friend Gayle.

Barbara was married to Walter Newby, Sr. in 1961. During their union, they were blessed with two sons, Walter Jr. (lovingly known as Sonny) Newby and Brian (Linda) Newby. Barbara was the oldest of four siblings: Marshneil (lovingly known as Marsha), Chiquita (lovingly known as Che Che), and Janet. They all had an inseparable bond with each other.

She was preceded in death by Che Che and Janet. Barbara leaves behind one sister, Marshneil; two sons, Sonny Jr. and Brian; seven grandchildren: Sonya, Keith, J.J., Alex, Brandon, Amia; nine nieces and nephews, Paul, McKenzie Jr. (lovingly known as Mack), Michael (lovingly known as Tony), Kenneth (lovingly known as Champ), Stephanie, Barbara, Terrance (RIP), Kim, and Floyd Jr. and a host of great-grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews. Barbara transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior on February 20, 2026.
