Growing up, Calvin loved watching kung fu flicks. You could not tell him he wasn’t Bruce Leroy of Orange, NJ when the movie, “The Last Dragon,” hit the theatre. He often walked the block of Lincoln Avenue wearing his karate suit and matching shoes, with neighborhood friends following behind him.

In 2006, Calvin enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving until May 2013. Afterwards, he returned to his security role at the VA Medical Center before relocating to Boydton, VA.
Calvin spent his formative years exploring different faiths. However, at the age of 15, he was baptized at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Perry, in Newark, NJ. He also attended Beulah Bible Cathedral Church, Dickson, in Newark, NJ. Calvin recommitted his life to the Lord while attending Jerusalem United Church of Christ under the pastorship of Reverend Otha Wimbush, in Boydton, VA where he served in the Choir and read the morning announcements.
He loved learning and would often text his mother and sisters when he completed online classes.
