Shelby 'Jean' Simmons, 68, of Durham, NC passed on October 16, 2016. 'Jean' was employed over 30 years at John Umstead Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2016 at North East Baptist Church, 3204 Hwy 55. Visitation will be at 12 noon.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep the family in my prayers. Ms. Jean was my mom best friend and I use to go play B.I.N.G.O with them. I have known Ms. Jean since I was a little girl and even when I went off to college I came to her house to let her know. She was so proud of me. She will be missed and I am sure her and my mom Lucy Johnson is in Heaven cutting up, having a good time!

Shelby Jean welcomed us into the Durham community back in 2002 and we became family. I am so sad that I was not there to share with my Durham family.
