Obituary For Sherron Reid

Sherron Blair Reid, the son of the late McDowell Reid and Aliene Archer Reid Pierce was born on May 25, 1938 in Ahoskie, N.C. He departed this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at home in Roxboro, N.C. He joined Phillipi Baptist Church at an early age. Sherron grew up on his grandfather's farm where he learned the value of hard work. He graduated from Robert L. Vann high school in 1955. It was there that he learned about the brave Tuskegee Airmen and began dreaming of learning to fly. He pursued this dream by attending N.C. Agricultural and Technical College in Greensboro, N. C. After college he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Japan where he served as a military policeman. While there he met and married Shigeko (Paula) Reid. To this union two children were born, a daughter Sherrie and a son Sherwin. He retired from the City of Detroit and relocated to Durham, N.C. where he resided until his health failed. He is survived by his daughter Sherrie Reid, five grandchildren, DeAndre Blackman, David Young, Aaron Reid, Shannon Reid, and Jacob Reid, his former wife Shigeko Reid, a devoted cousin, Jewel Brown Mitchell, two very special cousins and childhood playmates Curtis Wright and Pernell Reynolds , as well as numerous other family and his caregivers. Sherron was preceded in death by his parents and his son Sherwin Reid. Funeral service Friday, April 28, 2017, at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home at 12:00 pm.
