First Lady Jaivonna Bryant
April 20, 1959 — March 24, 2026

First Lady Jaivonna Demetrice Mitchell Bryant was born in Nashville, TN on April 20, 1959, to the late Douglas Mitchell and Maggie Sullivan Mitchell. She was the eldest of two children to Maggie Mitchell. She is proceeded in death by her parents and mother-in-law Claudia Staffney. Jaivonna grew up in south Nashville and was educated in Davidson County Public Schools. She attended Hume Fogg High School where she graduated with a cosmetology concentration in 1978. She was awarded best dressed, a half-timer, and a part of the homecoming court.

At the age of 22 she accepted Jesus Christ, as her Lord and Savior and was baptized by the late Rev. Willie J. Bryant at the Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. Jaivonna was a devoted First Lady and wife of 46 years to Pastor N. Curtis Bryant. They joined in Holy Matrimony on September 12, 1980. She served as First Lady to her beloved husband for 10 years at the Center Baptist Church, South Union, KY, 15 years at Jackson St. M.B. Church, and 20 Years at the Greater Heights M.B. Church.

First Lady Jai was a charming and loving woman of God cherished by her biological family, her church family, and anyone who had the pleasure to know her. She served her family not only as a beloved homemaker, but a true domestic engineer skillfully building a life where everyone felt cared for and supported. She managed to teach her children everything from kindness to resilience – and yes, even how to fall to the ground properly and laugh about it afterward. She served in her church choir, as a member of the Guiding Angels and wherever she was needed with the biggest prettiest smile ever. She will be remembered for her kindness and humor, and her ability to give wise advice. Her presence was a gift, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Rev. N. Curtis Bryant; dedicated daughters Cavandrea (Roy) Culberson, Curtesa Bryant, her loving son Bradley Jaimon Bryant; her 10 grandchildren Deonte’ Bryant, Braylen Hall, Jaila Hall, Dereon Hodge, Ja’Leah Culberson, Daija Hodge, Roy Culberson III, Ava Hall, Jaivon Hall and DaKari Bryant. She has one and only brother whom she loved, Charles A. Mitchell. She was loved and cared for by her father-in-law, Nathan Crenshaw and wife Kathy. She leaves a host of nieces and one nephew. She is lovingly remembered by her church family, bonus daughter, Tamika Lewis Jones (Cavandrea), several remaining loved ones, god children, Juandria “Nikki” Montgomery, Kyra Kennedy and a host of family and friends.

First Lady Jaivonna will be greatly missed by her family and the members of Greater Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
