Daryl Yancey Thomas was born on July 19, 1972, in West Point, MS to the late Lee Alma Thomas and Joe Holland, Jr. Daryl believed in God and was a proud member of Northside Christian Church. He was a dedicated father, who always made countless sacrifices to provide a legacy of greatness for his family.

Daryl was a 1990 graduate of West Point High School. Afterwards, he attended East Mississippi Community College where he received an associate degree in industrial Electricity. Shortly afterward he entered the electrical field where he was an electrician for Marsh Electric and Triplett Electric for a total of over 20 years. Eventually being hired by the City of West Point as a lineman, making history as the city’s first African American lineman. Daryl was currently serving as the Electrical Superintendent for the City of West Point, where he also made history as the first African American Superintendent to lead the electrical department. In addition, Daryl was recently elected as the first African American Clay County District 2 Supervisor.

Daryl was a man of determination and success and was known for his remarkable character, his unwavering strength and empowering leadership. Beyond his professional achievements, Daryl cherished time with his family, enjoyed an agricultural journey, and traveled with his wife.

Daryl leaves to cherish his memories; his father, Joe Holland, Jr (Mary); his mother-in-love, Teretha Knox; his wife of 29 years, Kahla Thomas; his three children, Jamesha Tolliver, Daryl Thomas Jr. (Teneisha), and Dason Thomas (Marquita); his siblings Yolanda McCauley (Chicago), Brandon Hill (Peoria), Shindel Holland (Aurora), Derek Holland (Aurora), Monica Holland (Aurora), Mario Price (Arlington), Brigzette Holland (San Antonio), Bashyra Holland (Killeen); Grace Thomas, Minnie Comer, Mattie Hampton (David), Gertrude Davenport (Wavie), and Joan Caldwell; six grandchildren, Chloe, Carter, Draylan, Xaiden, Kaisen, Ava and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Roosevelt and Gertrude Thomas; his mother, Lee A. Thomas; his father-in-love, James W. Knox; 1 aunt, Hattie Will Humphries, 3 uncles, Roosevelt Thomas Jr, Ezell Thomas, Melvin Comer and brother Marcus Holland
