Evelyn J. Hammonds, 81, entered into eternal rest on March 22, 2026, in Augusta, Georgia.

She was a devoted member of The Historic First Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hephzibah, Georgia. Evelyn was employed with Homestead Drapers for eight years until its closing. She later worked as a seamstress at King Mill Factory until her retirement and continued to serve her community part-time at ABC Childcare on Milledgeville Road until her health began to decline.

A proud graduate of Lucy Craft Laney High School, Class of 1962, Evelyn celebrated her 50th class reunion in 2012—a special occasion where she had the honor of walking alongside her granddaughter, A’Ceandra, for her high school graduation.

Evelyn J. Hammonds leaves to cherish her loving memory: her daughter, Cassandra (Sean) Bryant; grandchildren, LeShaunda Hammonds and A’Ceandra Evans; great-grandchild, Ky’Ari Hudson; brother, Josiah (Brittany) Jones; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Public viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home, 3618 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at The Historic First Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2040 Ebenezer Dr, Hephzibah, Georgia, 30815.

Interment will follow at The Historic First Ebenezer Cemetery.
