Ms. Lela Mae Brown, passed on March 28, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Jack Brown and Mrs. Beulah Mackey Brown. “Miss Jackie” as she was fondly known considered it her calling to feed the hungry and to bless those in need. She was a trailblazer in the community of Lancaster.
Prior to relocating to Lancaster, Rev. Cousar held residence in Charlotte, North Carolina along with her husband and daughter. Following her retirement from Grace Bleachery, she opened and operated Jackie's Place. Upon establishing a network with various churches and agencies, Miss Jackie became a resource of provision for numerous individuals, families and organizations.
Her profession of faith resulted in many years of devoted fellowship and service with Mt. Calvary Holiness Church. The journey of her life coursed through marriage to the late Mr. Andrew “Buddy” Cousar and motherhood to the late Sandra Cousar Herod. She was also predeceased by a grandson Lavanter Isaiah and great grandson Xavier Isaiah. The Brown family honors Aunt Jackie Mae as the last surviving sibling of the late Mrs. Ruth Duncan (Escort Lee); Mrs. Rachel Clark (Rev. I.C.); Mr. Jack Brown (Mary Katherine) and Mr. Roger Brown.
Remaining relatives include her grandson, Martese Isaiah, sister-in-law, Elaine Brown and a plethora of nephews, nieces and friends.
