John L. Cureton was born July 2, 1935 in Lancaster, SC to the late Ms. Blonnie Cureton and Mr. C. L. Vaughn. He departed his life on Monday, March 30, 2026 at his residence in Lancaster, SC.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Steele Hill AME Zion Church. He late became a member of the Trustee Board.
John L. loved farming he raised livestocks, and he also love gardening growing all types of vegetables to share with the community. He enjoyed playing cards “Bid Whist”.
He was preceded by death by his brother, Willie Cureton.
John L. leaves to cherish his loving memories; his beloved wife Margaret McKinney Cureton of 69 years; daughters Janet Velazquez (Elias) of New York, Janice Dixon (Dale, Sr.) of Charlotte, NC and son Herman Cureton (Jennifer) of Matthews, NC; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. One sister Geneva Hood of Western Union, North Carolina, One Aunt Nannie Cureton of Lancaster, SC., Two sisters-in-law, Clara Duckett and Ona Gallop both of New Jersey, two brothers-in-law, Robert Duckett and James Edward Davis and many extended family members and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Steele Hill AME Zion Church by the Reverend General Lee McKinney III with burial at Gold Hill AME Zion Church Cemetery.
Viewing will be 10:30 am to 12: noon Saturday April 11, 2026 prior to the funeral.
