Obituary For Thomas Melvin

Mr. Thomas Clavon Melvin, age 73, passed away peacefully at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC., with his devoted family in constant attendance during his final days. He was a resident of Rose Manor Convalescent Center in Durham, NC. Born on December 11, 1943 in Durham, NC to his late parents, Thomas Gorham and Cleo Johnson Luster Melvin, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Harriett Alston (James), Rose Strong (Robert), and Jacquelyn Renee' Melvin. Melvin, as some called him, was a good provider to his family and loved them dearly. He was a very talented carpenter, electrician, architect and builder - a 'licensed General Contractor,' building residential and commercial properties in Durham and in surrounding cities in North Carolina. He retired as a long term employee of the America Tobacco Company. His hobby was his passion for Playing golf; and he had the trophies to display. He also loved to sing. He is survived by his two daughters, Wanda King (Conley) of Laurel, Maryland and Kathy Melvin of Orlando, Florida; a grand-daughter, Sasha Melvin of Orlando, Florida; four brothers: Rev. Garland Melvin (Lois) of Raleigh, NC, Samuel Melvin, Sr. of Durham, NC., Ronnie Melvin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Stephen Melvin, Sr. of Winston Salem, NC; three sisters: Doris M. Lewis (Charles, deceased) of Buffalo, NY, Julia Melvin of Butner, NC., and Rev. Dardanella McMillan (David), Graham, NC., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Melvin family will receive family and friends at a Wake service at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, 2502 NC-55, Durham, NC., on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. The Celebration of Thomas' Homegoing will begin at 11:00 am.
