Verline “Verl-the-Pearl” Smith was born to the late Othur Green Sr. and Delilah Smith in Shaw, Mississippi. She transitioned to eternal rest to be united with her Savior on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Verline Smith was preceded in death by her beloved brother Stanley and sister Shirley Wadlington. Verline leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to her four sons: Reginald Smith, William (Courtney) Upton, Keith Upton and Lamont (Rashunda) Upton. Honorary daughter Kena Upton and son Willie Upton Jr. She leaves fourteen grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She also leaves three brothers: Charles Wadlington, R.L. Barrett and Carl Parish Three sisters: Valerie Jordan, Melzina Golliday and Marilyn Wadlington.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at St. James Ministries Church of God in Christ 3404 Andover St, Jefferson, La.70121. Visitation 9:00am Service 10:00am. Interment will be held Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 2pm at Cary Community Cemetery, Cary, MS.
