Simeon Alvin “Simmy” James was born in Mesopotamia, Saint Vincent to father Lawrence James (deceased) and mother Beulah James on August 25, 1967, the third child of this blessed union.
At a young age, he moved to St. Croix USVI with his family in the town of Christiansted where he attended Lew Muckle Elementary School. At an early age, he displayed an adventurous and carefree stance on life. He kept his family entertained with his sophisticated storytelling capabilities which also earned him the nickname “meow” for his love of telling stories about cats. He displayed a strong sense of ingenuity by always believing that he can create new and clever ways in solving problems which help developed his youthful engineering skills. He spent most of his teenage age years at Christiansted High school before moving to New York City. He transferred and graduated from Wingate High school in Brooklyn, New York in 1986. In High School, he always had a sense of fashion, extremely charismatic, and possessed a caring spirit for others.
He developed a love for music and expressed his admiration through rapping and singing about love, social consciousness, and peace. Simeon always had an innovating and inquisitive spirit in which he displayed his love for assembling multiple projects such as restoring cars, painting and home reconstruction. He went on to graduate from Tampa Tech trade school which gave him the skills set in becoming an automotive mechanic which allow him to utilize his passion for engineering. His free spirit allowed him to be creative, funny and loved by many. “Simmy” had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone he felt that was in need, even if it meant that he would go without due to his deep sense of community. He had a kind and compassionate spirit in which many people benefited from his generosity in the form of love. He enjoyed traveling and was blessed with the opportunity to go to the Mother land and collected souvenirs from his visits. He had an appreciation for art with any remembrance of African Caribbean culture. Simeon always had a song in his heart fulfilled by his connection with old school Hip Hop, R&B, Soca, Calypso, Reggae, Jazz and Gospel music.
On Tuesday, January 22, 2019 he departed this life and entered into his eternal rest.
Simeon James is survived by his Mother: Beulah James, Daughter: Eudelka Peart, Siblings: Wanice Cassandra (Chip) James, Rhody (Carmen) James, Troy (Lexaun) James, Terrance (Debbie) James, Deano James, Garry (Veronica) James, Everton James, Phil, Helen, Wayne, Donna, Mulleen, and Dawson. Grandchildren: Jha’nyah Vanterpool, Floyd Celestine Jr. and Zai’dan Thomas. Aunts: Yvonne Sutherland, Venus Thompson, Graffline Matthias. Nieces: Janice Kimberly James, Kameal James, Brianna James, Armani James, D’easha Brown. Nephews: Hasani Arthur, Donte James, Lebron James, Troy James Jr., Michael James, Jalen James, Emmanuel James, Dominic James, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 6-8 at Integrity Funeral Services.
He will be deeply missed by his entire family and friends.
