Obituary For Carolyn Ann Thornton-Clark

On August 21, 1951, a beautiful baby girl, Carolyn Ann Thornton, was born to Jimmie Lee Thornton and Louise Thomas Thornton, in Gifford, Florida.

Carolyn attended Gifford High School, from kindergarten until she graduated in 1969. During her time at Gifford High School, she was a May Queen, a cheerleader, a member of the basketball team and first attendant on the homecoming court.

Carolyn committed her life to God in April of 1970, at a tent revival service in Gifford, Florida. Throughout her childhood and young adult life, she attended and was a member of Northside Church of God (Northside Agape Ministries). Later in life she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her passing.

Although Carolyn spent most of her life as a resident of Indian River County, as a young woman she briefly resided in New Jersey and Connecticut. Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Anthony Clark and before the dissolution of their union, two beautiful girls were born; Shenitta Lachelle Clark and Michell Antoinette Clark. Carolyn also played a pivotal parenting role in the life of Chauncey Stovall.

She started her professional career as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Connecticut. She later returned to Indian River County where she was employed, as an assembler, building airplanes at Piper Aircraft. Carolyn then became employed at Indian River Medical Center (Cleveland Clinic), where she worked as an Administrative Central Control (A.C.C.) Clerk for 30 years, prior to her retirement in 2006.

Carolyn was an amazing, loving and selfless mother, who dedicated her life to the wellbeing of her children. She also served as a mother figure to several of her nieces and nephews. She was a devoted and proud grandmother, who never missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren’s academic and sporting events, plays and birthday parties; even during her extended illness later in life. She was kind, loved to dance, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling a good joke.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Lee and Louise Thornton; brothers, Leroy Thornton and Charlie Lee Thornton; sister, Ella Mae Thornton; and son-in-law, Charles Washington, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughters, Shenitta (Timothy) Evans and Michell Washington; son, Chauncey (Latoya) Stovall; grandchildren, Tyler Washington, Tyrrell Washington, Cassidy Stinson, Candaice Stinson, Chauncey Stovall, Jr., Paris Moore, Kendrick Washington and Keenon Washington; brother, Johnnie (Margaret) Thornton; sisters, Addie B. Bennett, Mattie Hunter, Emma Thornton and Sabrina (Edward) Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, whom she loved and adored.
