Obituary For Minister Norma Ann Bell

Celebration of Life for Minister Norma Ann Bell . Will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, March 9,2019 Central United Methodist Church.

Norma Ann Bell was born to the late Gladys Henry Bell Nicholas and the late Henry Bell in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the second born of a set of twins, Norman and Norma Ann. Norma was the proud sister of Randy Thomas Bell. Norma attended school in the New Orleans Public School system. She attended Thomy Lafon Elementary School, S.J. Green Junior High School and graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in 1966. The next several years following graduation, Norma worked for Charity Hospital and Travelers Insurance Company. She completed two years of college at Southern University New Orleans, Lake Front Campus. Norma relocated her residence to San Francisco, California. She later graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from San Francisco State University in Speech and Communication. In 1983, Norma gave birth to her daughter, Kiajuanna Gipson. After spending twenty years living in San Francisco, Norma and Kiajuanna drove to Atlanta, Georgia stopping in Arizona, the Grand Canyon, New Mexico and other states and cities along the way. While in California, Norma was active in many auxiliaries. She was proprietor of Norma’s Home and Care Home which provided encouragement for young children in their growth and development. She also provided respite care to children under the directorship of a dear friend, Renee Underwood, for the State Education Board of California. She accomplished her higher education pursuit at The Interdenominational Theology Center (ITC) and completed her Master’s Degree at Gammon Theological Seminary. Her concentration was in the areas of Pastoral Care and Counseling. Norma had always been called a Child of God. She was a member at Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church as a child and young adult; Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and St. Paul Tabernacle Baptist Church while residing in California; and currently, Central United Methodist Church. Possessing a heart for mission work, she traveled to underdeveloped countries such as Haiti and Cuba working with the disenfranchised in various cities throughout those countries. After receiving the Master of Divinity Degree from ITC, she completed a year-long residency study at Grady Memorial Hospital. She obtained her Clinical Pastoral Credential as a Pastoral Care Chaplain. Norma worked as a chaplain for many leading hospitals and hospice foundations. Her theological philosophy was that “God is not going to ask anyone about their denomination, but God is only interested in your heart, your belief in his name Jesus the Christ, and the embodiment of God in the flesh!” Also she believed that “Only the pure in heart shall see God/Jesus.” There was a plethora of biblical scriptures that Norma held dear to her heart and spirit. Matthew 7: 5-7, “Ask, Seek and Knock” was the scripture she frequently meditated on and it provided strength to her. Norma’s drawing force was to take advantage of every minute of the day. The “gift of time” was paramount in her continued growth to use her God given gifts and talents. Minister Norma Bell’s legacy to her daughter, Kiajuanna, is for her continued growth in God’s grace and her personal success. Never settle with complacency, but seek God’s truth and guidance.
