Gene Earl Mount (Pokey) was born on December 21, 1961, in Donalsonville, Georgia, to the late Trudie Mae Brelove and Levi Brelove. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Snowhill AME Church. He was called by God from this life to eternal rest on Monday, May 18, 2026.

He was a loving son, loving brother, and loving father. He was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Mount.

Gene grew up in Malone, Florida, and graduated from Malone High School where he was a standout basketball player, helping lead the Malone Tigers to a state championship title in 1981 where he was awarded Mr. Basketball in the state of Florida. After high school, Gene began working for Russell Distribution Center in Marianna, Florida.

Later, he became involved with the construction industry and contributed to the building of the federal prison in Marianna, Florida. Gene then began working for the Jackson County School District and later retired from the Bay District Schools where he was the maintenance supervisor.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Janna Mount; son, Genard Russ (Jacqui Russ); life-long partner of 26 years, Ms. Marcia Elaine Pitts; one stepdaughter, Alana Williams; three grandchildren, Jocelyn Russ, Justice Russ, and Ky’marri Lee; four brothers, Larry Mount (Brenda McAllister), Calvin Brelove (Samatha Brelove), Eric Brelove (Latitia Cagnolatti Brelove), and Levi Brelove (Tamira Williams); six sisters, Vickie Hearns, Jennifer Mount, Kathy Brelove, Faye Jones, Peggy Parks (Gene Parks), and Renee Perry; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
