Ms. Katie Mae Broadwater, born Katie Mae Winfrey, was born on June11, 1943, to the late Durel & Emma Winfrey. She entered eternal rest on May 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of quiet, strength, sacrifice, love, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Katie attended Laney High School and joined Elam Baptist Church in her youth. Her life was marked by humility, compassion, and a commitment to serving others. Whether caring for her family, tending to residents in nursing homes, or proudly helping feed the troops of the United States military at Fort Gordon for more than two decades, she served with quiet dignity and steadfast love.
To those who knew her well, Katie was a place of peace. Her gentle presence brought comfort, and her home was a refuge where love was steady. Through every sacrifice, she made her family feel seen, valued, and deeply loved. In uncertain times, she was a source of stability, and her love remains a lasting foundation for those she nurtured.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Marguerite Robbins, Leola Sullivan, Elijah Winfrey, and Freddie Winfrey. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving children, Lorenzo (Robyn) Broadwater of Hephzibah, Georgia; George (Tonya) Broadwater Jr. of Augusta, Georgia; Valerie (Andrew) Jenkins of Evans, Georgia; and Thomas (Angela) Broadwater of Augusta, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives &friends.
Ms. Katie Mae Broadwater will be remembered for her quiet strength, sacrifices, unwavering love, and the peace she created for all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in how she made others feel—safe, seen, comforted, and loved.
