Mr. Jeffery M. Key, husband to Mrs. Vetra Key, entered into rest, Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Wellstar MCG of Augusta.

Jeffrey was born on July 21, 1965, in Augusta, GA to the late Lewis Rivers and Lola Rivers.

While mourning his passing, his family rejoices in the comfort of his victory in Christ and cherishes the memories he leaves behind.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of 28 years, Vetra Key; his beloved daughter Sinay ‘Jojo” Key; brothers Vernon (Jean) Key, Tom (Ebony) Rivers; sisters, Sherry (Curtis) Johnson and Carolyn Jamison; his mother-in-law Maxie (Joe) Walker; brother-in-law Charlie Hannah; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives, and friends.

A Time to Build

With the guidance of his parents and the grace of God, Jeffrey was given a strong Christian foundation at an early age. He was baptized at Good Samaritan Baptist Church in Augusta, GA twice.

After marrying the love of his life, Jeffrey joined Friendly Church of God in Christ, where he remained a faithful member. There he rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized again and proudly served in the All-Male Choir.

In his later years, Jeffrey Joined Transforming Lives Bible Church, where he continued to fellowship and grow in his faith. His love for God and dedication to his spiritual journey remained an important part of his life.

A Time to Grow

Jeffrey was educated in the Richmond County School System and proudly graduated from Academy of Richmond County in 1985. He continued his education at Augusta Technical College, where he earned credentials in Industrial Maintenance in 2001 and HVAC in 2011.

A Time to Work

Jeffrey was a hardworking and dedicated man who believed in serving others through both his career and his community.

He proudly served 18 years in the United States Army, where he honorably served his country, including the war of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2002. Following his military service, Jeffrey worked in the Maintenance Department at University Hospital, and he also worked on Fort Gordon under Johnson Controls and IAP Maintenance and Mechanic. Jeffrey retired from the Richmond County School System Transportation Department, where he faithfully served as a mechanic.

A Time to Remember

Jeffrey enjoyed life and loved bringing laughter to those around him.

He was truly a comedian at heart and always knew how to make others smile.

He loved sports, especially basketball and football, and was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, and Boston Celtics. He enjoyed watching old western movies, classic sitcoms, and shows from the 1970s era.

Most importantly, Jeffrey was a devoted husband, loving father, family man, and community man.

He poured love, wisdom, and guidance into his daughter, Jojo and made a lasting impact on the lives of many young men through coaching and mentorship. Jeff was a volunteer basketball coach for the Richmond County Recreation Department for 25 years.

A Time to Die

On May 23, 2026, Jeffrey peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by the love of his family.

Although his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, service, wisdom, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Jeffrey touched many lives through his kindness, mentorship, and unwavering support for others.

Public viewing, Tuesday the 2nd of June from 2 pm until 6 pm, at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Transforming Lives, 2439 Peach Orchard Road. Interment will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.
