Justin R. Mitchell

Passed 05/20/2026

Justin Royale Mitchell was born in Petersburg, Virginia, on January 14, 1999. He was raised alongside his beloved mother and grandmother, Laura Louise Mitchell and Bernice Johnson. Justin attended Petersburg High School during his early years before later attending Glenn Hills High School in Augusta, Georgia.

At the age of 14, life circumstances brought Justin to Augusta, where he was lovingly welcomed and adopted by his Aunt Dorothy (“Dottie”) Jones. Through her unwavering love, guidance, and support, Justin was given the foundation and encouragement to pursue a bright future.

Justin proudly joined the United States Army on August 28, 2017, where he faithfully served his country for over seven years with honor and dedication as a 92A Automated Logistical Specialist. During his military career, he received numerous honors and recognitions, including the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Combat and Special Skill Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Certificate of Achievement, and the Army Achievement Medal (5th Award). In January 2026, he returned home to Georgia.

Tragically, only a few months after celebrating his 27th birthday, Justin unexpectedly passed away at his home.

Justin R. Mitchell was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Louise Mitchell; his grandmother, Bernice Johnson; and his aunt, Mrs. Helen Pulliam.

Justin’s kindness, cheerful smile, and joyful laughter touched everyone around him. He deeply valued his time serving in the Army and was a proud veteran. He had a love for food and enjoyed discovering good meals wherever he went. Naturally funny and full of personality, Justin dreamed of one day performing stand-up comedy, bringing laughter to everyone around him with his quick wit and sense of humor. In his free time, he enjoyed playing video games, and music was something that truly fed his soul. Above all, Justin had a generous heart and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

Justin loved and cherished his brothers, Don’Tonyo Mitchell, Jodeci Mitchell, and Denzel Mitchell . He also cherished his aunt and adopted mother, Dorothy Jones; his legal brother, Dennis Jones III; and Dominique Jones.
