Obituary For Robert Lee Careathers, Sr.

MR. ROBERT LEE “PAYNE PAYNE” CAREATHERS, SR. - Age 77, of LaFayette, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019. He was born on March 6, 1942 in LaFayette, Georgia to the late Mr. Mitchell Clark and Mrs. Maudell Careathers Clark. Robert was a Deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church was previously employed by Hayes Lemmerz, Combustion Engineering, U.S. Pipe, and Wheeland Foundry. His brother, Clifford Clark, and sister, Deborah Lay, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Aline Hinton Careathers; sons, Eric (Kelly) Careathers of LaFayette, Georgia and Robert (Sheron) Careathers, Jr. of Powder Springs, Georgia; daughter, Vanessa (Lawrence) Dixon of Norcross, Georgia; grandchildren, Aaron Careathers. Eric “Tredon” Jerral, Jordan Careathers, Ashanti Sarpong, Kofi Noi Sarpong, Ryanne Careathers, and Bryce Careathers; sisters, Ruth Ann Clark, Billie Sue Clark, Mary Ballanger, and Sharon Mathis; brothers, James Clark, Michael Johnson, and Wayne Johnson; aunts, Mary “Don” Careathers of Chattanooga, Tennessee; a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 247 Southern Road, Chickamauga, Georgia 30707, with Rev. William Tramble and other ministers officiating. His remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour. Interment, Garmany Cemetery.
