Dwight Rice, Jr. was born on July 9, 1971 to Gwendolyn Clowney Rice and Dwight (Delores) Rice, Sr. He was the husband of Sonya Rice. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, mentor, businessman, and community leader.
He was known for his ability to inspire others. Dwight was an encourager by nature, always finding the right words to lift someone's spirits, restore confidence, and remind people of their worth. To many young people, he was more than a mentor—he was a guiding light who invested his time, wisdom, and energy into helping them believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.
He was the successful business owner of Makeaway Sales and Towing. Dwight built more than a company; he built relationships. He treated customers like family, employees like partners, and every challenge as an opportunity to grow.
Those who knew Dwight will remember his infectious laughter and quick wit. He had a gift for making people smile and could turn an ordinary gathering into an unforgettable occasion. Whether sharing a joke, telling a story, or simply lighting up a room with his presence, he was truly the life of the party. His joy was contagious, and his ability to bring people together was one of his greatest gifts.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his children, Raven Rice, Justin Rice, Kiana Rice, Tyler Washington and Tyvon Green; thirteen grandchildren; his sister, Rashida Davidson (Derrick); his nephew, Derrick Jr.; his five stepchildren, Kinitra, Lirica, Marvelous and Whitney Makupson, and Rickey (Nicole) Burnside, III; eighteen step grandchildren; paternal grandmother, Carolyn Dawkins; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Evelyn Cole Clowney and John Clowney, Jr; and his paternal grandfather, Ralph Moore.
Though his physical presence will be greatly missed, his spirit, laughter, wisdom, and unwavering belief in others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, leadership, generosity, and joy that will never be forgotten.
