Mother Margaret Stewart “Sudie,” was the daughter of the late George and Alberta Stewart of Quitman, Georgia. She was born on November 16, 1934, in Quitman, Georgia. She received her education in the Brooks County School System.
At an early age, she committed her life to Christ, joining Sunberry A.M.E. Church, and later joined Wesley Temple Holiness Church, where she was a dedicated member for 55 years. She was the mother of the church for 50 of the 55 years. She worked at Archbold in Brooks for 40 years. She quietly departed life on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Presbyterian Nursing Home in Quitman.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Ann Stewart. Her brothers: Lee Morris Stewart, Westly Branch Stewart, George Stewart, and James Stewart. Her sisters: Dorothy Mays, Adalee Brown, and Berta Lou Moore.
Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her children, Maya “Shun” Lewis (Anthony) of Thomasville, Georgia and Valerie Stewart of Valdosta, Georgia. Her grandkids: Terry Stewart (Mona), Rockie Hadley (Ta’sha), Cedric Stewart (Barbara) all of Valdosta, Georgia, Tracey Williams (Sam), Latonya Stewart, and Latoya Stewart all of Quitman, Georgia, Ashley Pepalto of Quitman, Georgia,Takera Demps of Valdosta, Georgia, NaJaimia Stewart of Savannah, Georgia, Jabria Petterson of Atlanta, Georgia,Kelton Lewis, Anthony Lewis, Jr., Kayla Lewis and Kaleb Lewis all of Thomasville, Georgia, and a host of great-grandkids and great-great grandkids; one devoted elder, Erma Peak of Quitman, Georgia. One brother-in-law, JW Brown of Jacksonville, Florida.
Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2026 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 2PM-7PM.
Home going celebration will be Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 3PM at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in North End Cemetery. Visit this website to view a livestream of the celebration.
