Michael Leonard Freeman, Sr., affectionately known as "Mike," entered eternal rest on June 16, 2026, at the age of 63. Born in Canton, Ohio, on May 19, 1963, to David and Barbara Freeman, Mike lived a life rooted in faith, family, laughter, and service.
Mike was known for his warm smile, infectious personality, quick wit, and ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. To many, he was the "King of Comedy," bringing joy and laughter wherever he went.
After the tragic loss of his parents at a young age, Mike was lovingly raised by his uncle Gerald Jackson Sr. and aunt Gloria Jackson, whose guidance and steadfast faith helped shape the man he became.
Mike accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life and remained devoted to his faith throughout his journey. He faithfully served in ministry as a Deacon at Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Sherman Martin, Jr., studied God's Word diligently, and encouraged others through scripture, prayer, and acts of kindness.
Mike attended Canton City Schools and was a proud graduate of McKinley High School. During his school years, he played both football and basketball for the McKinley Bulldogs, a source of pride he carried throughout his life. He furthered his post-secondary education by attaining an associate degree from Microcomputer Technology Institute in Houston, Texas.
On June 28, 2025, Mike married the love of his life, DeBorah Freeman. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to faith, companionship, and unwavering commitment. Together they shared a love that brought joy, strength, and purpose to their lives.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Mike proudly supported the McKinley Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Duke Blue Devils. He also enjoyed movies, family gatherings, and sharing laughter with those he loved.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, DeBorah Freeman; sons, Michael Leonard Freeman II and Gregory "Scottie" Minor II (Deaunna); bonus children, Talese Johnson (Fred), NaShawn Williams; special aunt, Arlene Jackson; siblings, Ronda (Doug) James, Gerald (Alma) Jackson Jr., Tracie Freeman, Reginald (LouAnn) Lowe, and brother-in-law Daniel Freeman Sr.; along with a host of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Though he will be deeply missed, Mike's legacy of faith, love, and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. We have this confidence as Paul shared in II Corinthians 5:8, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
Celebration of Life services for Michael will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Zion's Temple Church of God, 1103 Seventh St. NE, Canton, OH. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service immediately following.
