Funeral service for Yolanda Smiley, 55, of Opelika, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m. (CST), Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Believers Church International, 508 South 6th Street, Lanett, Alabama 36863 with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, 1409 Monroe Avenue, Opelika, AL 36801, Bishop Carterris Tucker will officiate.
Mrs. Smiley, who passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, was born October 9, 1970, in Lee County, Alabama.
“Sweet”, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, graduated from Opelika High School Class of 1989. She enjoyed gardening, walking, listening to music and playing pickle ball.
Public viewing will be Friday, June 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (CST)
Mrs. Smiley will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Cameron Rashaad (Victoria) Flournoy of Opelika, AL and Anthony Derrick Smiley, Jr. of Birmingham, AL; father, Johnny Lee Lawson of Opelika, AL; a granddaughter, Kameryn Flournoy of Opelika, AL; three brothers, Lesley “BoBo” Lawson, Wesley “Jerod” Lawson and Antonio “Tony” Lawson all of Opelika, AL; six aunts, Delores (Coleman, Jr.) Woodson of Montgomery, AL, Janet (Robert, Jr. “Bob”) Newsome, Belinda Parker both of Radcliffe, KY, Carolyn Callaway, Flo Bell Crittenden both of Opelika, AL and France Gail Lawson Ingersoll of Crestview, FL; five nieces, Nicole, Desiree, Mesyia, Heavenly and Gabrielle; four nephews, Jacob, Jody, Tamaric and Caleb; two great nieces, Harmony and Tomani; one great nephew, Geo; three devoted friends, Ericka Parker Washington, Veronica Foster Grant and Angela Sharelle Floyd; a host of cousins and friends.
The family of the late Mrs. Yolanda Lawson Smiley acknowledges with grateful appreciation all acts of kindness, prayers, cards, telephone calls, flowers, and words of comfort extended to us during our time of bereavement. May God bless each of you.
